Fossil Shell Flour. Harvested from a fresh water silica deposit, this diatomaceous earth is comprised of strong, tubular shells. DE has a wide variety of uses; in particular, it is an effective anticaking agent and widely applicable pesticide. Mixing DE with animal feed prevents the feed from clumping and retaining moisture, keeping food fresh, minimizing mold and decreasing waste. As the animals ingest it, DE can clear internal impurities, worms and parasites.
The sharp edges of DE make it a valuable natural pesticide. It scratches insects waxy outer layer, absorbing their bodily fluids and killing them by dehydration. Any pest with an exoskeleton is vulnerable: ticks, fleas, lice, ants and bed bugs among them. Because this process is physical rather than chemical, insects cannot become immune to diatomaceous earth. Simply sprinkle it around areas where you want to eradicate insects and watch it work!
